Phoenix, AZ (3/22/19) - On Monday, the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management will begin a two-day prescribed burn nine miles southeast of Sonoita.
The Babacomari Ranch Rx Burn is slated for 2,000 acres, and objectives include, reducing the risk of hazardous fuels in the area, regenerating forage grass crop for grazing, and improving quail habitat.
Ignitions are always weather dependent with Monday’s starting in the afternoon.
Smoke will likely be visible in Sonoita, Elgin, Huachuca City, and Sierra Vista. It is likely that some smoke will settle into the lower elevations.
All prescribed burns are weather dependent and must be approved through the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality.
Any updates will be provided through social media on the agency’s Facebook and Twitter pages.
As a reminder, the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management now has a mobile phone application that can be downloaded for free through the iTunes or Google Play stores.
The app will provide various alerts about fire restrictions, prescribed burns, and wildfires, should the user sign up for those notifications.
