Phoenix, AZ (3/22/19) - The Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management releases a new tool for residents to capture just how likely their property may or may not withstand a wildfire in their area.

The Arizona Wildfire Risk Assessment Portal, or AZWRAP, allows users to log in and provide their address, or neighborhood information, and get a detailed report of their risk level and associating factors pertaining to that risk.

The portal provides real time information and allows residents to fully capture the extent of their risk level, depending on where they live.

AZWRAP has been in development for a while and captures risk assessment data from across Arizona. It is comprised of a suite of applications tailored to provide specific information to the public, local community groups, private landowners, government officials, hazard mitigation planners, and wildland fire managers. Collectively these applications will provide the baseline information needed to support mitigation and prevention efforts across the state.

“Preparedness is a necessity and the more tools we can provide to the residents of Arizona, the safer our communities will be. Through the Wildland Risk Assessment Portal one can determine how high their property’s risk for wildfire is and take the necessary steps to reduce that risk, like creating defensible space. Defensible space provides that barrier between your property and a potential wildfire and reduces the risk of that fire destroying your structure,” said State Fuels Manager Terry Hudson.

To utilize the portal and determine your area’s risk level go to azwildfirerisk.com.
