Phoenix, AZ (11/19/18) - A White Fir takes the spotlight as Arizona’s 2018 Capitol Christmas tree and the Department of Forestry and Fire Management recently cut the tree down to be put on public display.

On Thursday, crewmembers with the agency’s Northern district cut the 26-foot White Fir off the Coconino National Forest.

Arizona’s White Firs are typically seen in higher elevations, but can also be found across the Western United States.

White Firs can grow up to 150-feet tall and are a favorite choice for Christmas trees due to their fragrant pine smell and superior needle retention.

“We are honored to be able to select and cut down Arizona’s Christmas tree. We must also thank our partners at the Coconino National Forest for allowing us to harvest a tree off of federal land,” said DFFM’s Northern District Manager Aaron Green.

A tree lighting ceremony will take place next week at the Capitol Rotunda.
