1 Arrested on Firearms Charges During Cranford Police Motor Vehicle Stop

An Essex County man was found to be in possession of a loaded firearm during a motor vehicle stop on Centennial Avenue near Raritan Road Friday, September 29th, 2023.

At approximately 11:09 PM, Officer Christopher Gross stopped a white 2016 Toyota for equipment and moving violations in the area of Centennial Avenue and Raritan Road.  Subsequently, Officer Jason Ingram was dispatched as Officer Gross’ back-up.  During the course of the motor vehicle investigation, Officer Gross located an open container of alcohol and a controlled dangerous substance – Ecstasy, and a loaded firearm.  The driver, later identified as Kareem Williams, 35, of Newark New Jersey was taken into custody without incident.

Willliams was found to be in possession of a loaded 9mm Smith & Wesson handgun, two extended magazines, and CDS MDMA.

Williams was charged with 2nd Degree Possession of a Firearm, two counts of 4th Degree Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Magazine, and 3rd Degree Possession of CDS MDMA.  In addition, Williams was issued motor vehicle summonses for improper safety glass, improper turn, possession of an open container of alcohol, and possession of CDS in a motor vehicle.  At the time of this arrest, Williams was committed to the Union County Jail pending a detention hearing.
