An Essex County man was found to be in possession of a loaded firearm during a motor vehicle stop on North Avenue and the Garden State Parkway Interchange Wednesday, December 27th, 2023.
At approximately 11:34 PM, Officer Antonio Bellomo stopped a black 2016 Dodge for equipment and moving violations in the area of North Avenue at the Garden State Parkway Northbound Entrance Ramp. Subsequently, Officer Liam Duffy was dispatched as Officer Bellomo’s back-up. During the course of the motor vehicle investigation, Officer Bellomo located a loaded firearm. The suspect, later identified as passenger Marion Carson, 22, of Irvington New Jersey, was taken into custody without incident.
Carson was found to be in possession of a loaded .380 Lorcin L380 handgun containing a hollow point bullet.
Carson was charged with 2nd Degree Possession of a Firearm and 4th Degree Possession of Hollow Nose Ammunition. At the time of this arrest, Carson was committed to the Union County Jail pending a detention hearing. In addition, the driver of the vehicle, Gabriel Olaniyi, 21, of Newark New Jersey, was arrested on an unrelated outstanding criminal warrant out of the City of Newark New Jersey. Olaniyi was issued motor vehicle summonses for driving while suspended, improper display of a license plate, improper lane change and careless driving.
