1 Arrested On Firearms Charges During Crash Investigation

A Hudson County man was found to be in possession of a loaded firearm during a motor vehicle crash investigation on Centennial Avenue on Sunday, May 18th, 2025.

At approximately 00:18 AM, Officer Travis Freeman located a two-car motor vehicle crash on Centennial Avenue near Hayes Street. Subsequently, Detective Robert Jordan was dispatched to assist.  During the motor vehicle crash investigation, Officer Freeman located a loaded firearm on an individual suspected to have been involved in the crash.  The suspect, later identified as Wendell Moreland, 20, of Jersey City, New Jersey, was taken into custody without incident.

Moreland was found to be in possession of a loaded H&K semi-automatic handgun containing 11 rounds of ammunition. 

Moreland was charged with 2nd Degree Possession of a Firearm, 4th Degree Possession of large capacity magazines. At the time of this arrest, Moreland was committed to the Union County Jail pending a detention hearing.
