1 Charged With Narcotics and a Firearm During Cranford Police Motor Vehicle Stop

An Essex County man was found to be in possession of a loaded firearm and narcotics during a motor vehicle stop investigation on North Avenue on Monday, February 9, 2026.

At approximately 10:57 PM, police stopped a 2014 BMW on North Avenue near the Orchard Street for an inoperable tail light. During the course of the investigation Officer Jack Korzeneski and Officer Liam Duffy located a loaded semi-automatic handgun and narcotics. The driver, Victor Lopez, 37, Newark, NJ was taken into custody without incident.

Lopez was found to be in possession of a loaded Taurus 9mm handgun, hollow-nose bullets, and controlled dangerous substances – heroin.

Subsequent to his arrest, while in custody Lopez was combative towards officers, exposed himself and urinated on police property.

Lopez was charged with Possession of a firearm, Possession of large capacity magazines, Possession of narcotics, Lewdness, and Criminal Mischief.

At the time of the arrest Victor Lopez was committed to the Union County Jail pending a detention hearing.
