An Essex County juvenile was found to be in possession of a loaded firearm during a motor vehicle stop investigation on North Avenue on Tuesday, October 6, 2026.

At approximately 9:14 PM, Officer Tufano stopped a 2015 Chrysler on North Avenue for improper safety glass. During the course of the investigation, officers located a loaded 9mm semi-automatic handgun within the vehicle. The passenger, a 17-juvenile male, from Essex County NJ was taken into custody without incident.

The juvenile was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and possession of large capacity magazines.

At the time of the arrest the juvenile was committed to the Essex County Juvenile Youth Detention Center pending a court hearing.
