A Middlesex County man and Union County man were found to be in possession of two (2) loaded firearms during a motor vehicle stop on Cayuga Road near Ramapo Road Saturday, August 5th, 2023.
At approximately 11:46 hours, Officer Ryan McSharry observed a Silver 2015 Kia with registration and equipment violations in the area of Centennial Avenue and Cayuga Road. Subsequently, Officer McSharry effected a motor vehicle stop of the Kia on Cayuga Road at Ramapo Road and Officer Travis Freeman was dispatched as his back-up. During the course of the motor vehicle investigation, Officer McSharry observed the muzzle of a black hand gun protruding from under the front of the driver’s seat. The driver, later identified as Basil Hasan, 20, of Scotch Plains New Jersey and passenger, Keshan Brown, 22, of Avenel New Jersey, were both taken into custody without incident.
Hasan and Brown were found to be in possession of two (2) loaded 9mm Springfield Armory handguns, one equipped with an extended magazine.
Hasan and Brown were both charged with two (2) counts of 2nd Degree Possession of a Firearm and one count of 4th Degree Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Magazine. In addition, Hasan was issued motor vehicle summonses for failure to maintain lamps, fictitious display of license plates, obstructed windshield, failure to produce a credential, failure to wear a seatbelt and failure to inspect a motor vehicle. Brown was issued a summons for failure to wear a seatbelt. At the time of this arrest, Hasan and Brown were committed to the Union County Jail pending a detention hearing.
