2 Charged With Firearms and Narcotics Offenses During Cranford PD Motor Vehicle Stop

A male and female from Essex County New Jersey were found with narcotics and a loaded firearm during a motor vehicle stop investigation on North Avenue on Wednesday, January 7th.

At approximately 9:56 PM, police stopped a 2021 Nissan Altima on North Avenue near the Garden State Parkway exchange for several motor vehicle violations. During the course of the investigation, Officer Nicolette Tufano located narcotics packaged for distribution purposes within the vehicle. Additionally, a firearm loaded with 6 rounds of ammunition was located within the Nissan.  2 vehicle occupants were taken into custody without incident. 

Recovered was a Glock 9mm handgun with hollow point bullets, suspected heroin, suspected crack-cocaine, and prescription pills.

The driver, Samad Wright, 45, Newark, NJ, was charged with 2nd Degree possession of a firearm,  2nd Degree possession of a weapon during CDS offenses, 4th Degree possession of prohibited weapons, and 2nd Degree possession of heroin/cocaine with intent to distribute.

The vehicle’s other occupant, Pamela Armstrong, 64, Orange, NJ, was charged with 2nd degree possession of heroin/cocaine with intent to distribute and 3rd degree Hindering Apprehension.

At the time of the arrests, Wright and Armstrong were committed to the Union County Jail pending a detention hearing.
