5 Charged on Firearms Charges During Cranford Police Motor Vehicle Stop and Investigation

Four Essex County adults and one Camden County juvenile were found to be in possession of loaded firearms during a motor vehicle stop investigation on North Avenue on Saturday, June 28th, 2025.

At approximately 02:24 AM, Officer Joshua Sousa stopped a 2011 Kia Optima on North Avenue near the Garden State Parkway #137 exchange for several motor vehicle violations. During the course of the investigations two occupants fled from the vehicle on foot. The three remaining occupants, Chryshon Winbush, 21, Newark, NJ, Samir Walker, 18, Irvington, NJ and a 17-year-old juvenile from Camden County were all taken into custody after officers located two loaded semi-automatic firearms within the vehicle as well as several ski masks and gloves.

Tyquan Jackson, 26, Newark, NJ was identified as one of the occupants who fled and was arrested later in the day when he was located in Cranford.

Taejean Wilson, 20, Newark, NJ remains at large.

All five individuals were charged with 2nd Degree Possession of a Firearm, 4th Degree Possession of large capacity magazines. At the time of the arrests Winbush, Walker and Jackson were committed to the Union County Jail pending a detention hearing. The Juvenile was committed to the Essex County Juvenile Facility pending a detention hearing
