Automated License Plate Readers (ALPRs) Lead to Arrests in Separate Incidents

Automated License Plate Readers are being attributed to two recent incidents leading to arrests, and underscoring the efficiency of this cutting-edge technology in swiftly identifying and apprehending individuals engaged in criminal activity.

On November 22, 2023 at 1345hrs., the Cranford Police Department was alerted to a stolen 2023 Chevrolet traveling within the Township.  Detective Jason D’Agostino located the vehicle in the area of W. Lincoln Avenue and W. South Avenue.  D’Agostino was able to coordinate responding patrol units and tactically conduct a motor vehicle stop.  Mamadou Diallo, 27, and Fousane Hydara, 25, both of Bronx, New York, were taken into custody without incident.  Both were charged with one count of Receiving Stolen Property and released on a summons pending a Superior Court Appearance.  Diallo was also charged with Hindering Arrest for providing Officers with a fraudulent name during the course of the investigation.

On November 24, 2023 at 1434hrs., Patrol Units were alerted to a stolen 2012 Ford traveling within the Township.  Officer Christopher Gross located the vehicle in the area of E. Lincoln Avenue and E. South Avenue and conducted a motor vehicle stop.  The driver Rick McMurrian, 59, of Planfield was taken into custody without incident.  McMurrian was charged with one count of Receiving Stolen Property, one count Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance (Cocaine) and released pending an appearance in Union County Superior Court.
