On Sunday, February 20th, 2022 the Cranford Police Department arrested an Essex County man and a Union County woman for narcotics and multiple weapon-related offenses during the course of a motor vehicle stop on Raritan Road.

At approximately 1953 hours, Officer Christopher Gross observed a Blue 2022 Hyundai commit multiple motor vehicle violations in the area of Centennial Avenue near Raritan Road.  Subsequently, Officer Gross effected a motor vehicle stop of the Hyundai on Raritan Road near Centennial Avenue, and Officer Michael Gamba was dispatched as his back-up.  The driver of the Hyundai was identified as Tremayne Williams, 48, of East Orange NJ and the passenger was identified as Brianne Robinson, 42, of Winfield Park NJ.

While both Williams and Robinson were separated, Robinson attempted to conceal drug paraphernalia from Officer Gross and was immediately handcuffed and arrested.  Outside of the Hyundai, Williams dropped controlled dangerous substances by his feet and began to flee the scene on foot, but was caught and placed under arrest by Officer Michael Gamba after a brief foot pursuit.  Williams was found to be concealing distribution-weight CDS Crack-Cocaine.

Subsequently, as the investigation continued it was discovered that both Williams and Robinson were in the possession of a loaded Taurus 9mm handgun, a defaced Ruger .380 caliber handgun also loaded with ammunition, CDS crack-cocaine, CDS heroin, CDS paraphernalia, and a large sum of U.S. Currency.

The Union County Prosecutor’s Office approved the following charges against both Williams and Robinson:  Two Counts of 2nd Degree Possession of a Firearm, Two Counts of Possession of a Firearm while Possessing CDS with the Intent to Distribute, 4th Degree Possession of a Defaced Firearm, 4th Degree Possession of a Large Capacity Magazine, 2nd Degree Possession with the Intent to Distribute CDS Crack-Cocaine, 3rd Degree Possession of CDS Crack-Cocaine, 3rd Degree Possession of CDS Heroin, and Possession of CDS Paraphernalia, a disorderly persons offense.  In addition, Williams was charged with Resisting Arrest and given motor vehicle summonses for failing to maintain lane, failing to signal lane change, and possession of CDS in a motor vehicle.  Chief Ryan J. Greco confirmed that this was the second firearms arrest conducted by the Cranford Police Department within the past week after a stolen firearm was recovered during a motor vehicle stop in Cranford on February 16th, 2022.

At the time of this arrest, Williams and Robinson were awaiting commitment to the Union County Jail pending a detention hearing.
