Cranford OEM: Winter Weather Advisory 01/06/22 - 01/07/22

WEATHER ADVISORY 01/06/2022 - 01/07/2022

Information Cutoff: 1500hrs 6 January 2021

NWS Alert Level: Winter Weather Advisory: Midnight to Noon Friday

OEM Alert Level: Enhanced Watch Elevation (Tentative return to Steady State operations at noon Friday)

Summary: A low-end plowable winter storm will impact the region beginning late overnight and will impact the Friday morning commute.

Primary Threats / Hazards: 3-5 inches of snow. Northwesterly wind gusts in the 20-25mph range are possible in the afternoon and evening on Friday, resulting in low wind chill values (<20)

Impacts: Snow accumulations will make travel difficult.

Timing for Cranford area:

Onset: 0100-0300hrs

Peak: 0400-0700hrs – Heaviest snowfall rates are expected in the pre-dawn hours.

Ending: 0800-1000hrs . Clearing is likely by mid-morning.

Confidence: Moderate to High – any shift in the track of the low will alter snow amounts. Tracks closer to coast could increase amounts, while eastward shifts will result in lesser amounts.

Preparedness Actions:

  1. Public Works personnel are prepping plows and salting equipment.
  2. REMOVE VEHICLES FROM ROADWAYS - ESPECIALLY ON SNOW ROUTES.
