Subsequent to a motor vehicle stop, three Essex County men were taken into custody for weapons related offenses.
On August 9, 2023, at approximately 2217hrs., Officer Joshua Sousa conducted a motor vehicle stop of a silver Chrysler sedan in the area of E. North Avenue and Elizabeth Avenue, for speeding and equipment violations. During the course of the motor vehicle stop, the three occupants of the vehicle were discovered to have in their possession multiple defaced firearms, one of which was discovered to have been stolen out of South Carolina.
The arrested are as follows:
Each defendant was charged with Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Defaced Firearm, Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Magazine, Possession of Hollow Point Bullets, Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purpose, and Receiving Stolen Property. Foster was charged with an additional count of Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, while Cotton was issued multiple motor vehicle summonses.
All three were transported to Union County Jail pending a detention hearing in Union County Superior Court.
