The Cranford Police Department is actively investigating a carjacking that occurred last evening, September 23rd, 2023, at a business on North Avenue East in Cranford.

At approximately 9:44 PM, police units were dispatched to a business on the 300 block of North Avenue East on the report of a carjacking.  According to the victim, while changing a flat tire on their Mercedes SUV, they were approached by 2 dark-skinned black or hispanic males operating a gray Porsche.  The suspects exited the Porsche and, after a brief struggle and threat to the victim's safety, stole the Mercedes - fleeing onto the Garden State Parkway entrance ramp.  The Mercedes immediately became disabled as a result of having a flat tire and the suspects fled in the Porsche onto the Garden State Parkway.

Residents are encouraged to be vigilant and have a heightened situational awareness as the frequency of violent crimes involving automobile thefts has increased in recent months.
