A Linden juvenile was apprehended after taking a running vehicle from a South Avenue business parking lot Friday evening.

On January 13th, 2023 at approximately 1954 hours, Officer Rameil King was dispatched to a South Avenue convenience store on the report of a stolen motor vehicle.  Officer King and Detective Robert Jordan began their investigation and immediately observed surveillance footage that captured a male suspect taking the victim’s 2015 Nissan Altima from the parking lot, then fleeing westbound on South Avenue East.  Detective Jordan relayed the suspect description, vehicle description and direction of flight to additional responding units.

A short while later, Officer Michael Gamba located the stolen Nissan as it traveled at a high rate of speed in the area of Lincoln Avenue and High Street.  Officer Gamba observed the Nissan abruptly turn onto the dead-end section of Pine Street and come to a stop in the apron of a residential driveway.  Officer Gamba conducted a felony motor vehicle stop of the Nissan, taking a 17-year-old Linden juvenile suspect into custody without incident.  Subsequent to arrest, this juvenile was also found in possession of CDS MDMA.

The juvenile was charged with 3rd Degree Theft of Moveable Property, 3rd Degree Possession of CDS MDMA, and Possession of CDS Paraphernalia.  At the time of this arrest, the juvenile was processed, provided a Superior Court Appearance Date, and released to the custody of a family member.  In addition, he was issued motor vehicle summonses for not having a license, failure to keep right, reckless driving, failure to signal, leaving the scene of an accident, and failure to report an accident.
