As a result of an overnight residential burglary and auto theft investigation by the Cranford Police Department, three Essex County men including one juvenile were charged with burglary and theft which occurred in the early morning hours of June 28, 2023.
At approximately 0650 hours, units were dispatched to the 500 block of Lexington Ave on the report of a residential burglary and auto theft. Upon arrival Officers met with the victim who reported that their home was entered through a rear window overnight and his vehicle’s key fob was removed from inside the house. Subsequently, the suspects stole the victim’s Mercedes Benz which had been parked in the driveway. Cranford Detectives arrived on scene and processed the home. In doing so, Detectives recovered key pieces of evidence which linked Nasir Soloman,19, of East Orange NJ and a 17-year-old juvenile also of East Orange NJ, to the scene.
Additionally, through the detective’s investigation Jahshaun Hewitt, 23, of East Orange NJ, was also identified as a co-conspirator.
The victim’s vehicle was equipped with a GPS tracking device and it was later recovered in East Orange NJ while being operated by Soloman and the juvenile suspect.
All three were charged with 3rd Degree Burglary and 2nd Degree Theft and are awaiting an appearance in Union County Superior Court.
