ARREST MADE | KCSO Investigates Child Neglect Case in Gaines Township

UPDATE (9/1/2022 11:00 AM):  Earlier this morning Indiana State Police apprehended William Williams.  He is lodged at the Grant County Jail in Indiana awaiting extradition back to Kent County.  The 13-year-old remains in stable condition at the hospital.

GAINES TOWNSHIP, Mich:  Over the weekend the KCSO responded to a local hospital in regard to a 13-year-old female with severe malnourishment and physical injuries.  KCSO investigators worked alongside Child Protective Services and determined these injuries occurred at a residence in the 100 Block of Fontana St SE.  Two adults are facing charges of Child Abuse 1st Degree.  50-year-old guardian Wilma Edwards was arrested the same day while her 49-year-old boyfriend, William Williams, fled and remains at large.  The 13-year-old remains in serious but stable condition at the hospital.  KCSO is looking into the whereabouts of William Williams.
