GRAND RAPIDS, Mich – (January 17, 2019) The Kent County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of Child Abuse at Helen Devos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids MI. Deputies learned that a 4 month old boy suffered fractures to his legs and bruising on his body. Investigators interviewed the child’s father identified as a 19 year old Cedar Springs resident and learned that he abused the child who was under his direct care. During the course of the investigation it was learned that the mother had knowledge of abuse and failed to get obtain appropriate medical care.

On January 22, 2019 this case was reviewed by the Kent County Prosecutor’s Office and the 19 year old Father was charged with Child Abuse 1st Degree. The mother of the child also a 19 year old Cedar Springs resident was charged with Child Abuse 4th Degree and Resisting and Obstructing Police.

Children’s Protective Services is also involved in the investigation. The names of both individuals are being withheld pending arraignment.
