COURTLAND Twp, Kent County - Mich:  On Monday April 22, 2019 at around 1800 hours the Kent County Sheriff’s Office was called to investigate a crash that occurred at the intersection of Tefft Ave and 13 Mile Rd NE in Courtland Township. A 2016 Nissan SUV was being driven south on Tefft Ave by a 68-year- old female from Rockford. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The other vehicle involved was a 2006 Mercury SUV being driven west on 13 Mile Rd by a 44-year-old male from Cedar Springs. He along with an adult passenger and a 9-year-old passenger were transported via ambulance to the hospital for injuries that did not appear life threatening.

The KCSO was assisted by Courtland Township Fire Department, Rockford Ambulance, and Consumers Energy due to power pole being broken. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor at this point of the investigation. Preliminary investigation indicates that the at-fault driver is believed to have run the stop sign while heading south on Tefft Ave.  At this particular intersection, 13 Mile Rd has the right of way and does not have a traffic control device. The incident in still under investigation. Next-of-kin is being notified and we expect to release the names of those involved in the morning.
