UPDATE:  Following the media coverage of the below accident, a tip was received as to the identity of the driver who originally fled the scene.  As a result of the tip, deputies were able to subsequently identify the driver of the Chevy Blazer who was taken into custody and lodged at the Kent County Correctional Facility.  The Kent County Prosecutor's Office will be reviewing the case for charges against the driver in the near future.  

GAINES Twp, Mich:  On 6/24/19, shortly after 5:00 p.m., a 63 year-old female in a wheelchair was traveling southbound on the east sidewalk of S Division Ave SE north of Piedmont Dr, the entrance to Southwood Mobile Home Park. A Chevy Blazer was exiting the park on Piedmont, failed to see the female on the sidewalk, and struck her.

The Blazer fled the scene; it was described by witnesses as a light-colored older Chevy Blazer with no obvious damage driven by a white male. The female suffered minor injuries on scene. Deputies are currently investigating this case. It is unknown if alcohol is a factor. Speed was not a factor.
