October 13th, 2022 1:36 pm

WALKER, Mich:  The Kent County Sheriff’s Office has completed its investigation of the Walker Police Department officer-involved shooting which took place on September 9th, 2022.
Our investigation determined that Walker Police detectives were attempting to interview the suspect, Robert Gallup when he ran and pointed a firearm at the detectives. A detective responded by firing at Gallup, striking him in the arm. Gallup eventually made his way to a nearby vehicle and a pursuit ensued that ended near the Kent and Ottawa County border.  Gallup then escaped on foot and stole a truck in Ottawa County.  He was involved in a subsequent police chase where he was taken into custody.

Robert Gallup has been charged with: Felonious Assault, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Felony Firearm, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Resist/Obstruct Police, Fleeing and Eluding Police 3rd Degree. The Kent County Prosecutor, Chris Becker, has deemed the Walker officer’s actions justified.  However, due to the pending charges against Gallup, he is unable to release a full analysis of the incident. Gallup was arraigned in the 59th District Court with a bond of $500,000 and is being held at the Kent County Jail.

At this time follow-up questions may be directed to the Walker Police Department.
