LOWELL TOWNSHIP, Mich. (September 2, 2021) – The Kent County Sheriff’s Office is conducting a death investigation in Lowell Township.

On 09/01/2021 at 7:30 PM, deputies from the Kent County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 11000 block of Barnsley Road S.E. to check the well-being of a resident. Deputies arrived on scene and located Derek Thebo (32) of Lowell, and his son, Dylan Thebo (3), deceased inside the home.

The investigation is ongoing; however, there is no threat to the public. Autopsies were completed on 09/02/2021 by the Kent County Medical Examiner’s Office, who confirmed the cause of both deaths was gunshot wounds. Dylan’s death was ruled a homicide, and Derek’s death was ruled a suicide.
