KENT COUNTY, Mich: Earlier this morning a KCSO deputy was lodging a suspect for drunk driving at the jail. While inventorying the suspect's property, the deputy discovered an unknown substance inside a pouch. The deputy immediately realized that he likely had an airborne exposure to the substance and notified jail staff. KCSO jail staff administered two doses of Narcan and his vitals were monitored. Some effects of the exposure were experienced and two more doses were given. The deputy was transported by ambulance to an area hospital and is currently doing well. The deputy was hired by KCSO this past summer. The substance was later identified as cocaine.
Even though he was wearing gloves and being mindful while searching the personal property, this reminds us again of the danger of harmful drugs in our community. If you or a loved one are struggling with addiction, please call 211 to find resources in our community or the National Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration helpline at 800-622-HELP (4357).
