KCSO Investigates Drive-By Shooting in Gaines Township

November 10th, 2022 10:59 am

GAINES TOWNSHIP, Mich:  Just after 9:00 PM last night, the KCSO received multiple 911 calls about shots fired along Campus Park Dr south of 60th St SE. Deputies arrived in the area and located a home struck by gunfire. The home and surrounding homes were checked and thankfully no one was hurt. Initial information finds that three vehicles were involved in the drive-by shooting and upwards of fifty gunshots were fired. Deputies recovered a stolen vehicle parked along Campus Park Dr and were able to determine that the other three vehicles used in the shooting were also stolen. A broadcast was put out by the KCSO Communications Center to surrounding agencies to be on the lookout for these three stolen vehicles involved in the shooting.

At approximately 3:00 am this morning, GRPD responded to a report of stolen vehicles parked at Normandy Drive SE and Village Drive SE. The vehicles fit the description of two of the suspect vehicles involved in the Gaines Township shooting. Upon arrival, officers determined there were occupants in both vehicles. A perimeter was set up and additional GRPD resources responded to the scene. The Kent County Sheriff’s Office Technical Services Unit was also activated. When contact with the suspects was made, both vehicles intentionally rammed a GRPD vehicle in an attempt to escape.

One of the suspect vehicles was able to leave the scene and a pursuit was authorized. The four occupants of the on-scene vehicle were taken into custody. During the pursuit, the suspect vehicle crashed into the porch of a residence near Fulton and Valley NW. Two of the suspects fled on foot and were located via K9 track. The two suspects who remained were taken into custody at the scene. After being treated for minor injuries resulting from the crash, custody was transferred to KCSO.

Multiple firearms and evidence of additional felonies were recovered during the eight total arrests.
