KENTWOOD, Mich:  On October 24, 2021 the Kent County Sheriff’s Office was requested to investigate an Officer involved shooting involving a Kentwood Officer in the 4500 Block of Grantwood Ave Se, Kentwood MI.

The incident originated as a disturbance in the home which resulted in the stabbing of a 37-year-old roommate. Kentwood Officers arrived on scene and the suspect, 60-year-old Kim Douglas Ropp, was still armed with the knife. The suspect and a 37-year-old third roommate were struggling for the knife in the doorway when the police arrived.

Officers attempted to defuse the situation by using a beanbag gun. Both the 37-year-old roommate and the suspect were shot by the bean-bag rounds. The bean-bags rounds were ineffective on Kim Ropp who remained armed. Ropp was then shot by one of the officers who used his service weapon.

Kim Ropp was pronounced dead at the scene. The 37-year-old stabbing victim was transported to Metro Hospital where he underwent surgery and is in stable condition. The other 37-year-old roommate was treated at the scene with minor injuries.

The Officer’s name is not being released at this time. The case remains under investigation.
