GAINES TOWNSHIP, Mich: Yesterday, just after 6:00 PM the KCSO responded to a robbery at a retail store parking lot along Marketplace Dr SE. A 70-year-old Kentwood woman was loading groceries into her vehicle when a younger male ran up and took her purse from the shopping cart. The woman was uninjured, but the suspects made off in a stolen Kia and later used the victim's credit cards at area stores.
The suspect is described as a younger black male wearing a winter coat and fled to the passenger seat of the awaiting stolen car. Investigators are actively following up on leads. The KCSO is asking the public to be aware of their surroundings and where they place their personal belongings while shopping. It is believed that several people are involved in these types of purse robberies. This is the third robbery the KCSO has investigated since this summer.
If you have information that could help to move the investigation forward, please call the KCSO at 616-632-6125, or call Silent Observer at 616-774-2345 to report information safely and anonymously.
