KCSO Investigates Serious Car Crash Involving Extrication of Occupants - Gaines Township

GAINES TOWNSHIP, Mich. (Feb. 2, 2021) – The Kent County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a car crash where several people had to be extricated from their vehicle.

On 02/01/2021 at 2:20 PM, deputies from the Kent County Sheriff’s Office responded to a serious injury car crash at the intersection of 60th St SE and Patterson Ave SE in Gaines Township. An SUV, driven by a 50-year-old male from Caledonia, was traveling southbound on Patterson Ave SE when it ran the red light at 60th St SE. It was struck by an eastbound pickup truck, driven by a 56-year-old male from Byron Center. The driver of the pickup truck was transported to Metro Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the SUV and his passenger, a 22-year-old female from Caledonia, had to be extricated from their vehicle and were transported to Metro Hospital in serious condition.

The intersection of 60th St SE and Patterson Ave SE was closed during the extrication and investigation processes. Dutton Fire Department, Kentwood Fire Department, Life EMS, AMR, and Kentwood Police Department assisted at the scene. The accident remains under investigation, but alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor.
