KCSO Presents Letter of Appreciation to Residents Nick Haughton and Nina Palmateer

October 4th, 2021 9:09 am

On February 26, 2020, Nick Haughton and Nina Palmateer contacted our agency because they were concerned for the well-being of one of their co-workers, who was threatening to harm themself.

As Nina spoke with a dispatcher, Nick contacted the co-worker and talked with them. Nina relayed pertinent information from Nick to our dispatch center and vice versa. Both Nick and Nina remained calm throughout the entire call. Nick could be heard in the background talking to the co-worker and allowing them to tell their story. Nick gave the co-worker positive feedback and asked questions that were critical to first responder safety.

Nick and Nina followed the guidance given to them by the dispatcher and were able to get their co-worker to speak directly to one of our officers. We were able to meet with the individual and safely get them help.

Nick and Nina were instrumental in bringing this situation to a favorable end. Without their actions and caring demeanor, the incident could have had a very different outcome. For this, we proudly awarded them with a KCSO Letter of Appreciation. Please join us in congratulating and thanking Nick and Nina (who could not join us for this ceremony) for their outstanding actions!
