KENT COUNTY, Mich: The KCSO is wrapping up its Rescue Task Force training tonight at the Gaines Township offices in southern Kent County. Rescue Task Force is a collaborative effort between local, state, and federal law enforcement and fire departments that utilize both police officers and medically trained firefighters to move into active threat incidents with the mission of providing quick, life-saving treatment (such as tourniquets) to victims and extracting them to safety.
The need for Rescue Task Forces was identified because of After-Action Reviews from active assailant incidents throughout the country showed that victims who had been shot, stabbed, or otherwise injured required immediate life-saving treatment and transport in order to survive. This effort is designed to more efficiently use firefighter manpower, under the protection of the police, to save lives.
Kent County Emergency Management Coordinator Matt Grosser will be onsite for questions and to provide an overview for any media.
