KCSO Shooting Investigation Leads to Arrest

February 10th, 2023 12:43 pm

Kent City, Mich:  Just before midnight, a red Volvo sedan pulled into a driveway in the 300 Block of S Main St NW.  The driver got out and fired several rounds as the homeowner was near the front door.  No injuries were sustained, but a neighboring home was struck.

The victim called 911 and deputies were able to locate the vehicle traveling well over 100mph along 17 Mile Rd approaching Cedar Springs.  A pursuit started, but due to high speeds and road conditions, the suspect went out of sight east of Cedar Springs.  Deputies continued the search and located the red Volvo parked at a home along Meddler Ave north of 18 Mile Rd.

Deputies observed two people sitting in a van in the driveway and approached to make contact with them.  One male exited the van and had a firearm in one hand, ignored police commands, and took off running to the north.  More KCSO resources, a Walker Police drone, and an MSP Trooper helped establish a perimeter in the area.

Homeowners where the car were found were interviewed and it was learned the suspect was an acquaintance and lived at a residence just to the north along Verlin Dr.  The KCSO Tactical Team arrived on scene and made verbal attempts to reach any occupants that were inside the home on Verlin Dr.  After a search warrant was authorized, tactical team operators started to make entry into the home and a male and female immediately came out.

A 28-year-old Gowen man was arrested on charges related to the shooting in Kent City, the vehicle pursuit, and weapons offenses.  The female is being interviewed in regard to her involvement.  It appears this confrontation started over a domestic relationship dispute and parties were known to each other.  This is not a random shooting incident.
