LOCATED | KCSO Investigates Parental Kidnapping

December 1st, 2022 7:42 pm

UPDATE (12/1/2022 at 7:45 PM):  KCSO detectives were able to determine that Laquita Armstrong-Cavin was staying at a motel in San Angelo, Texas.  With the assistance of the San Angelo Police Department, Laquita has been arrested as of 7:00 PM EST.  Zora was also located, unharmed, and turned over to Children Services in Texas.  The Kent County Prosecutor's Office authorized a warrant for Kidnapping - Custodial Interference, a one-year felony.  Extradition to Michigan is pending and Children Services is working to get Zora back to Michigan for her proper care.

###

ALPINE TOWNSHIP, Mich:  Yesterday just after 7:30 PM, a non-custodial mother took her 4-year-old daughter from a supervised visit.  36-year-old Laquita Armstrong-Cavin had arranged a supervised visit to shop with her daughter Zora Armstrong along Alpine Ave.  Laquita fled the store with Zora in a vehicle and has not been heard from since.

The KCSO is investigating this as a parental kidnapping as she is a non-custodial parent.  However, no threats were made and the vehicle she left in is not known, thus not qualifying for an Amber Alert.  Laquita is a Muskegon resident, but we are asking anyone with knowledge of her and Zora's whereabouts to contact the KCSO or their local authorities.

If you have information that could help to move the investigation forward, please call the KCSO at 616-632-6125, or call Silent Observer at 616-774-2345 to report information safely and anonymously.
