Incident Type: Threats

PLAINFIELD Township, Kent County: Highlands Middle School was placed on "lockout" earlier this morning due to threats from previous students to a current student.

On 01/21/2020 at approximately 8:00am, the School Resource Officer (SRO) for Northview Public Schools was notified of a threat to a student who attends Highlands Middle School, located at 4645 Chandy Dr NE. The threat was initiated through an Instagram chat group.

As a result of the threat, the school was placed on lockout. All students and staff were kept inside the building and were not able to leave as classes ran as usual.

While parents were being notified of the lockout, the SRO and Investigators from KCSO identified and conducted interviews with three suspects. The suspects are 5th and 6th graders who attend a different school.

The lockout was cancelled around 12:00pm after it was determined that the threat was not credible. The complaint will be sent to the Prosecutor’s Office for review of potential charges.
