Just before 10:00 pm last night the Grand Rapids Police Department responded to an armed robbery along Leonard St involving shots being fired with no one struck.  Just after 10:30 pm, the Kent County Sheriff’s Office investigated a homicide on S Division St in Byron Township.  Deputies located a 50-year-old Kentwood man deceased from gunshot wounds.  It appears the homicide occurred during an attempted robbery at an ATM.  An Audi SUV was stolen along the 700 block of S Division Ave in the City of Grand Rapids and was tied to an armed robbery along Ann St around 1:15 am.  At 1:30 am this same Audi was used in an armed robbery of a gas station at 28th St & East Paris in the City of Kentwood.

Grand Rapids Police later located the vehicle and initiated a pursuit.  After the vehicle left the City of Grand Rapids, Walker Police officers located the vehicle and pursued it until the vehicle crashed along Alpine & 4 Mile in Alpine Township.  With the assistance of multiple police agencies, a 20-year-old man and 22-year-old man from Grand Rapids were arrested nearby after fleeing the crash.

Kent County police agencies are working closely together to identify how and if these events are related and working to identify all suspects involved.  As we learn more about the involvement of the two men in custody and subsequent charges, we will provide an update.
