TWO CHARGED WITH MURDER | KCSO Investigating a Homicide in Byron Township

UPDATE as of 5/27/22 3:30PM:

The two men apprehended by police early Wednesday morning have been charged with Felony Murder, Felony Firearms, and Conspiracy to Commit Armed Robbery in connection with the death of Joseph Wilder. Rhishy Manning and Jaheim Hayes-Goree were arraigned in 63rd District Court this afternoon and were denied bond. 

KCSO detectives also arrested a third individual in connection with the string of incidents late last night, a 23-year-old Grand Rapids man. Detectives have been working around the clock this week in hopes of further piecing together the string of events. This case is still open and remains active in attempts to confirm if all are indeed related.

UPDATE:  The KCSO has the sad duty of informing you of the passing of Joseph Wilder, a 50-year-old City of Kentwood resident, who was the victim of the homicide in Byron Township.  KCSO detectives continue to work on the case.

BYRON TOWNSHIP, Mich:  Just after 10:30 pm on Tuesday, a passing motorist heard a gunshot while traveling in the 6400 block of Division.  Kent County deputies arrived to find a male in a pickup truck with a gunshot wound.  The driver of the pickup, a 50-year-old male from the City of Kentwood, was pronounced deceased.  Early indications point to a possible attempted robbery near an ATM.  KCSO investigators are on scene canvassing the area and are working to learn more.
