GAINES TOWNSHIP, Mich. (Feb. 1, 2021) – The Kent County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal car crash involving alcohol in Gaines Township.

On 01/31/2021 at 10:48 PM, deputies from the Kent County Sheriff’s Office responded to a two-vehicle car crash on 68th St SE near Paris Ave SE. A 2002 BMW SUV was traveling eastbound when it crossed the centerline and struck a 2005 Dodge Stratus head-on. The driver of the Dodge Stratus, a 21-year-old male from Grand Rapids, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the BMW SUV, a 48-year-old woman from Kentwood, was taken to the hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

Cutlerville Fire Department, Dutton Fire Department, and AMR assisted at the scene. The accident remains under investigation, but alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash.
