UPDATE on 05/10/2021 at 4:30 PM: The Kent County Prosecutor’s Office charged Oscar Clarence Mitchell (40) from Grand Rapids with Assault with Intent to Murder and Felony Firearm in the 05/05/2021 shooting in Byron Township. Mitchell was arraigned on 05/10/2021 in the 63rd District Court and is currently being held at the Kent County Correctional Facility on a $250,000 bond.

BYRON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (May 5, 2021) – The Kent County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting in Byron Township where multiple subjects were injured.

On 05/05/2021 at 1:54 PM, deputies from the Kent County Sheriff’s Office responded to S Division Ave and Kenbrook St SE on a shooting. When officers arrived on the scene, they located two males with gunshot wounds. Both subjects were transported to Metro Hospital and are undergoing medical treatment. A firearm was recovered at the scene.

The cause of the shooting remains under investigation.
