UPDATE | KCSO Investigating an Armed Carjacking in Gaines Twp

March 14th, 2022 3:01 pm

UPDATE | Early this morning around 2:30AM an observant Grand Rapids Police Officer located the blue Jeep Cherokee that was stolen driving in the area of Fuller Ave & 196.  The vehicle fled from officers and was located after it crashed near Knapp St & Ball Ave.  The KCSO & a Wyoming Police K9 assisted in searching for the driver, but they were not located.  The KCSO Crime Scene Unit processed the scene and vehicle for evidence and detectives continue to work the case.

GAINES TOWNSHIP, Mich:  Last night at 9:15pm a 58-year-old Grand Rapids woman had her car stolen while at gunpoint.  This took place after she arrived home in the area of Saffron Ln SE & Billings Ct SE.  While one suspect was pointing a gun at her another male ripped the keys from a lanyard around her neck and both fled in her vehicle.  The two suspects were described as black males in their teens to twenties wearing dark colored clothing and surgical masks.  The incident appears to be random and a crime of opportunity as the victim had just arrived home.  KCSO detectives are actively working the case and urge anyone with information about the suspects to come forward.

If you have information that could help to move the investigation forward, please call the KCSO at 616-632-6125, or call Silent Observer at 616-774-2345 to report information safely and anonymously.
