ALTO, Mich: This morning, just before 5:00 a.m., deputies responded to a home invasion call in Plainfield Township; the homeowner was inside the residence when the break-in occurred.  Once alerted to the break-in, the homeowner looked outside and recognized the suspect's vehicle and confronted him as he came inside. After a brief confronation, the homeowner ran to safety at a neighbor's house, and the suspect fled in his vehicle.  

Responding deputies located the suspect vehicle leaving the area, but due to the suspect driving at very high rates of speed deputies did not pursue due to safety concerns. Several minutes later, deputies again located the suspect as he neared his residence in the Alto area.  A traffic stop was initiated and he fled again, eventually striking a KCSO police vehicle before driving to his home and running inside. Deputies set up a perimeter around the suspect's residence, located in the 8800 block of Summerset Woods Dr SE. 

KCSO specialty units responded to Summerset Woods, including the TAC and negotiator teams.  Negotiations are ongoing at this time, and no one else is believed to be with the suspect in his residence.  There is no known threat to community safety at this time, and updates will be provided as the situation develops. 

UPDATE: as of 9:20 AM the suspect has been taken into custody without incident. This investigation is ongoing.
