A 54-year-old man is facing charges following an armed robbery at a business in southeast Medicine Hat on August 18, 2026.
At approximately 11:10 a.m., Medicine Hat Police Service patrol officers responded to a report of a robbery. A store employee reported that a man had entered the business, selected items, produced a weapon and demanded cash from the register.
When the suspect left the store on foot, the employee immediately contacted police. Officers obtained a detailed description and quickly began searching the surrounding area.
Within minutes, responding officers located a man matching the suspect description in a nearby park. He was safely taken into custody without injury to the suspect, officers, or members of the public.
During a search following the arrest, officers located the weapon used in the incident. Investigators also recovered evidence believed to be connected to the robbery in the area where the suspect was arrested.
Resulting from this investigation, 54-year-old Paul Holland of Medicine Hat was arrested and charged with the following:
- Robbery
- Possession of a weapon dangerous
Holland was held for a judicial interim release hearing where he was remanded into custody. His next court appearance is scheduled for September 3, 2026.
