On November 27, 2025, at approximately 10:30 PM, members of the Medicine Hat Police Service (MHPS) responded to a report of a dispute at a residence in the 600 block of 8 Street SW. Upon arrival, officers were advised that a physical altercation involving a weapon was occurring inside the home.

Patrol officers confirmed that no additional victims or witnesses remained inside the residence and that a male suspect was still present. Despite multiple attempts to communicate with the individual, the suspect refused to cooperate. Members of the MHPS Tactical Team and Negotiator Team were subsequently deployed.

The suspect was located within the residence and taken into custody safely and without injury. No injuries were reported by victims or witnesses at the scene.

As a result of the investigation, Kaiden Smith, age 19, of Medicine Hat, has been charged with the following offences:

• Assault with a weapon
• Possession of a weapon dangerous to the public
• Resist arrest
• Disobey a court order (five counts)

Smith was held for a judicial interim release hearing and has been remanded into custody. He is scheduled to appear before the Alberta Court of Justice on December 1, 2025.
