On June 29, 2025, at 4:15 AM, a Medicine Hat Police Service Patrol member attempted to conduct a vehicle stop on a vehicle that did not have a licence plate. Once the police emergency equipment was activated the driver responded by accelerating from police at a high rate of speed travelling through a red traffic light. Due to the significant risk to the public the officer did not pursue the vehicle.
Approximately 15 minutes later, the vehicle was located in the downtown area where a passenger was observed exiting the vehicle. The passenger was taken into custody and the vehicle fled once again at a high rate of speed. Once again, due to public safety concerns, the vehicle was not pursued. Through investigation the driver was identified as 18-year-old Harley German. On June 30, 2025, German was located at his residence in Medicine Hat and arrested without incident. He was charged with Dangerous Operation and Flight from Police Officer. German was held for a bail hearing and released to appear at Alberta Court of Justice on August 7, 2025.
