On November 7, 2020 at 3:00PM, MHPS received a call for service of a 30 year old male who was in emotional distress. Upon police arrival, an officer attempted to provide crisis support to the male which was unsuccessful. The male then continued to actively cause self-harm which resulted in an officer deploying oc spray causing momentary incapacitation which lead to the officer being able to successfully separate the male from an edged weapon. The male was subsequently taken into custody and not injured as a result of the apprehension and thankfully the officer was also uninjured. The male has been taken to Medicine Hat Regional Hospital for further assistance and support.
