The Medicine Hat Police Service has charged a 35-year-old Medicine Hat man in connection with two separate break-and-enter investigations.

The first investigation began after a commercial break and enter was reported on July 24, 2026, at a business in the 300 block of 3 Street SE. Police determined the business had been forcibly entered through a broken window overnight and that several items were stolen, resulting in losses exceeding $5,000.

During the investigation, officers reviewed surveillance footage from multiple locations and identified a male suspect believed to be involved.

The second investigation involved a residential break and enter reported on August 24, 2026, at a condominium building in the northeast area of the city. Surveillance footage showed a male entering the building and stealing property from the underground garage. Investigators later identified the suspect.

On September 1, 2026, officers located and arrested the suspect in relation to the residential break and enter. Evidence obtained during the investigation also linked him to the commercial break and enter reported on July 24.

During a search following the arrest, officers located suspected fentanyl, suspected methamphetamine, and items believed to be break-and-enter tools.

Tristan Skappak, 35, of Medicine Hat, has been charged with:

• Break and Enter to Commit Theft Over $5,000 (2 counts)
• Possession of break-in instruments
• Breach of probation (2 counts)
• Possession of a controlled substance (2 counts)
• Failing to comply with an undertaking

Skappak was held for a judicial interim release hearing and was remanded into custody. He is scheduled to appear in Medicine Hat Provincial Court on September 3, 2026.
