The Medicine Hat Police Service has charged a 49-year-old Medicine Hat man in connection with a series of vehicle damage incidents that occurred on September 15, 2026.

On September 15, 2026, at approximately 10:00 a.m., police received reports that multiple vehicles had been intentionally damaged in the parking lot of a business located in the 400 block of Maple Avenue SE. An independent witness observed the suspect using an object to scratch several parked vehicles and recorded a portion of the incident on a mobile phone. Additional surveillance footage obtained by investigators captured the incident.

Police determined that five vehicles were damaged, with estimated repairs totaling approximately $12,500. Members of the MHPS Downtown Patrol Unit later located and arrested the suspect without incident. He was taken to police holding cells and is being held pending a judicial interim release hearing.

As a result of the investigation, the man was charged with five counts of mischief under $5,000. His name cannot be released at this time, as the charges have not yet been sworn before the Provincial Court of Alberta.
