Medicine Hat Police Service Media Release

Public Safety Alert – Overdose Warning

November 28th, 2019 11:34 am

In the early morning hours of November 28, 2019, the Medicine Hat Police Service responded to two overdoses, approximately one hour apart. Both subjects were successfully revived after the administration of Narcan.

The Medicine Hat Police Service is concerned with the chemical consistency of current street drugs and believe people may be using a higher potency opioid-based drug, than they suspect. The Medicine Hat Police Service is currently investigating the source of these street drugs, but would remind those who do use opioids purchased from illegal suppliers, to do so with this warning in mind.

Within City of Medicine Hat, there are numerous agencies that can assist with addictions, and are available to those who are in crisis. If you or someone you know is using opioids, please reach out to an assistance agency or contact the MHPS who will direct you to community resources

Anyone with information that could assist the investigation is asked to contact the MHPS at 403-529-8481 or submit at tip (anonymously if preferred) through the MHPS Mobile App. The MHPS mobile app is free and available to download for both Apple and Android devices by searching ‘Medicine Hat Police Service’ on the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
