Search Warrant Results in Significant Drug and Firearm Seizure

On September 24, 2026, members of the Medicine Hat Police Service (MHPS) Major Crimes Unit, with assistance from Patrol Section members, executed a search warrant at a residence in the 300 block of Stratton Way SE.  The search warrant followed an investigation into suspected drug trafficking activity at the residence.

During the search, police seized approximately 1,042 grams of cocaine, 13.5 grams of methamphetamine, and approximately $18,689 in Canadian currency from the residence and associated property. The cocaine seized has an estimated street value of approximately $104,200.

Police also located and seized several weapons, including a loaded 10mm Glock handgun with a defaced serial number, a 9mm handgun, and two sawed-off shotguns. Numerous other weapons were located, including conducted energy weapons, brass knuckles, knives, pepper spray and collapsible batons.  Investigators also seized numerous items consistent with drug trafficking.

As a result of the investigation, Sean Bowers 45, of Medicine Hat has been charged with:

  • Possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking;
  • Possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking;
  • Possession of proceeds of crime;
  • Nine counts of breaching a firearms prohibition;
  • Two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose;
  • Possession of a loaded restricted firearm;
  • Unsafe storage of a firearm;
  • Defacing or removing a firearm serial number; and
  • Three counts of breaching a release order.

 

Ashley Barker 41, of Medicine Hat has been charged with:

  • Possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking;
  • Possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking;
  • Possession of proceeds of crime;
  • Two counts of breaching a firearms prohibition;
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose;
  • Possession of a loaded restricted firearm; and
  • Defacing or removing a firearm serial number.

 

Bowers and Barker were held for judicial interim release hearings and as a result were remanded into custody.   Both have their next court appearance on September 29, 2026, at the Alberta Court of Justice, Medicine Hat.
