On September 30, 2026, members of the Medicine Hat Police Service (MHPS) Criminal Investigation Section were conducting an ongoing investigation into the trafficking of stolen property.
During the investigation, officers observed an exchange involving property that had recently been reported stolen from a Medicine Hat business. Police subsequently recovered and seized the property, valued at approximately $1,600.
Officers then continued the investigation at a storage facility associated with one of the individuals involved. At the location, officers observed numerous boxes of suspected contraband tobacco products in a storage unit and vehicle.
Following a search, police seized contraband cigarettes with an estimated street value of $92,600. A 2024 Cadillac XT5 was also seized as offence-related property. Charges are pending, and no individuals will be identified at this time.
Property crime has a direct impact on residents and businesses in Medicine Hat. The MHPS remains committed to investigating those responsible for stealing, possessing and trafficking stolen property. Investigators will continue to follow available information to recover stolen property, identify those involved and pursue appropriate charges.
