On October 1, 2026, at approximately 9:29 a.m., police responded to a report of a suspicious package in a flower bed outside a church in the 2700 block of Southview Drive SE.
Police secured the area, closed portions of Southview Drive SE and evacuated church personnel. The Medicine Hat Police Service Explosive Disposal Unit (EDU) was called to assess the package. Following an initial examination, additional safety measures were implemented. Medicine Hat Regional 911 contacted residents in the area and requested that they shelter in place. Police officers also conducted door-to-door notifications in the surrounding neighbourhood.
EDU members safely examined the package and determined that it did not pose a threat. The matter remains under investigation.
